Since 7th May 2019, Kotlin is Google's preferred language for Android application development. The first stable built version was released in December 2014, starts from version 1.0. It started its early access preview from version 0.1 in May 2013. We are happy to confirm that Android Studio, the new IDE for Android development that Google is developing in cooperation with JetBrains, is based on the IntelliJ Platform and the existing functionality of IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition.
